Refractive Index Liquid
| A small drop of this liquid creates a seal between the gem and the refractometer. Although, other liquids can be used, methylene iodide is the only commercially available liquid with an RI high enough to test highly refractive gemstones like sapphire and spessartite.
Metheylene Iodide, RI= 1.81 +- .005., SG 3.32. Store at 68 to 80 Degrees F. Avoid light, Copper enclosed for stability. |
